It is especially important that the guide you choose is well-versed on the entomology of the water, knows where the fish are, and has strong casting skills. A good guide will teach you to wade safely, cast properly, read the water and give a correct presentation to the fish.

Guides are there to help and teach, so they should have an excellent knowledge of the equipment and what will suit your skills and "style". A quality guide will have extensive knowledge of the types of fly fishing waters in their area of service and can help you select the proper equipment and hone those techniques necessary to achieve success on these waters. A guide who's great conversationalist is nice too, it keeps the relationship with client and guide open, relaxed and fun.
