Cuchara River Fly Fishing

The Cuchara River is just 50 miles North of the Colorado/New Mexico state line on I-25, nestled in the Sangre de Christo foothills, known by many as Fly Fishing Heaven. Just take exit #50 from I-25 into Walsenburg and in the center of town, turn West towards the Rockies on Hiway 160. Go 11 miles to the Colorado Hiway 12 intersection (on the left) and turn south -- proceed 5 miles to La Veta -- continue thru La Veta on Hiway 12 for another 12 miles to Cuchara, Colorado.

More than the the 28 miles from the Super Slab, you will find yourself traveling back in time to a place when Main Street was the center of town and not merely an exit number off the Interstate. A time when folks were friendly and waved to one another as they passed on the streets or sidewalks. A time when concrete and asphalt were rare or non-existent. A time when courtesy and respect were the standard and cell phones and neon lites were more of a hinderance than a necessity.

Relax and make sure the fishin' pole and your waders are the first things unpacked. And don't fret if you forgot yours, or heaven forbid -- don't own one..!!

You'll find everything you will need at our premier fly shop right there on Main Street. And worry not if your casting skills are a little rusty or you're not sure which flies to use. Our knowledgeable and friendly guides licensed by the State of Colorado (outfitters lic #2500) can help you. Don't waste your time trudging thru the riverside brush and scrabble. Our guides know right where the really big ones hang out on the Cuchara River and how to get there without risk or hassle.

Or maybe your preferences lean more towards peace and quiet of lazy afternoon of lake fishing. Our guides have access to premium waters just a bit further up the Cuchera valley at Bear Lake and Blue Lake.

Cuchara truly is a town where The River Runs Thru It -- with the Cuchara River just a short walk from anywhere on Main Street and the restuarants serving tasty meals and healthy doses of friendliness and good will.

Need a place to stay while you take a break from the microchip world and ipod lifestyle? The Yellow Pine Guest Ranch is just what the doctor ordered. Or, for an extended stay, try Cuchara River Condos & Cabins. All the comforts of home without the hassle of housekeeping.
